Hengist's Fortress is a castle in the kingdom of Mercia. It is home to the bandit Hengist and is likely located in the Vale of Denaria near the Camelot/Mercian border.
History[]
Hengist held Gwen prisoner in his fortress after he was led to believe that she was the Lady Morgana.
Lancelot briefly lived in the fortress when he went to work for Hengist. He tried to help Gwen escape after he discovered her plight, but they were both captured and sentenced to be fed to Hengist's pet Wilddeoren.
Arthur and Merlin later infiltrated the fortress by scaling its outer walls, after which they rescued Gwen and Lancelot and escaped through a tunnel connected to the Wilddeoren's cage (Lancelot and Guinevere).
Trivia[]
- Caerphilly Castle was used to depict Hengist's Fortress. The main filming location was the Great Hall.
- In the commentary of this episode, Bradley James assumed that the cell where Gwen was held was located in Cardiff. However, the cell was actually in the same castle.
