The showdown with Emrys occurred when the Knights of the Round Table discovered Merlin (disguised with an ageing spell) while he was trying to get to Morgana's Hovel.
Events
While struggling to remount his horse after disguising himself with an ageing spell, Merlin was discovered by the Knights of the Round Table. The Knights recognized him as the sorcerer who had killed Uther and decided to arrest him and take him back to Camelot.
At first Merlin tried to talk his way out of the situation. When that failed, he purposely antagonized the Knights by insulting them and threatening Arthur's life. Merlin's goading eventually drove Gwaine to attack him and he quickly defeated him with a stunning spell. Percival tried next and Merlin used his magic to break the blade of his sword, then magically shoved him and Leon into each other and threw them on top of Elyan, knocking all three unconscious.
In the aftermath of the battle, Merlin used the Knights' bodies as makeshift stairs to climb onto his horse, then rode away (A Servant of Two Masters).
