The duel between Uther and the Gleeman occurred after Odin hired the Gleeman to avenge his son's death by killing Arthur Pendragon.
Events[]
Arthur was attacked by the Gleeman while visiting his father after his birthday celebration. Because he'd been dosed with a sedative earlier in the evening, Arthur was unable to fight effectively and was easily defeated.
As the Gleeman prepared to kill Arthur, Uther picked up a sword and confronted him. After trading a series of intense blows, the Gleeman drove Uther back and nearly killed him, but because the assassin was only toying with him, Uther managed to rally himself and fight back. He gained the upper hand and overpowered the Gleeman, disarming him and holding him at swordpoint.
Unfortunately, as Uther prepared to deliver the final blow, the Gleeman drew a knife and lunged at him. Uther killed him, but failed to block the Gleeman's attack and was mortally wounded in the process (The Wicked Day).
Trivia[]
- Though Arthur attempted to heal Uther with magic, he ultimately died of his injuries (The Wicked Day).
