This man's a shadow of his former self. A shadow with ill intent.
Gaius to Merlin about Lancelot (Shade)[src]

Lancelot (Shade) is a Shade version of Lancelot. He was resurrected by Morgana to stop Gwen from becoming Queen of Camelot.

Biography[]

Shade Lancelot rises from the Pool.

When Morgana learned about Gwen and Arthur's marriage plans, she went to the Pool of Nemhain used a magical coin to resurrect Lancelot as a Shade. She carefully molded his mind and informed him of his Gwen's former feelings for each other, then sent him to Camelot.

Lancelot revealed his supposed survival during Gwen and Arthur's wedding tourney. He told Arthur and the other members of the Round Table that after stepping through the veil, he'd found himself on one of the Silk Road passes high in the Feorre Mountains. He also claimed that he'd been rescued by the Madhavi people, who had cared for him until he was well enough to return to Camelot.

Most of his friends accepted his story, but Merlin grew suspicious when Lancelot had no memory of his magic. He and Gaius later used a pentacle enchantment to determine that Lancelot was a Shade and theorised that Morgana must have sent him to harm Arthur.

However, Lancelot's target was Gwen, not Arthur. He visited her the next morning to wish her well and to give her a bracelet. Morgana had enchanted the bracelet with a love spell that caused Gwen to feel inexplicably drawn to Lancelot. She initially struggled against these feelings, but later gave into them after Arthur was wounded in the final round of the tournament and Lancelot forfeited to spare him further injury.

That night, Lancelot met with Morgana's ally Agravaine and revealed that he'd arranged to meet Gwen in the council chambers. Their conversation was overheard by Merlin, who attempted to knock Lancelot out on his way there. However, Lancelot knocked him out instead before proceeding to the council chambers, where Arthur later caught him and Gwen kissing.

Enraged, Arthur attacked Lancelot and they dueled for several minutes while Gwen tearfully pleaded for them to stop. Merlin arrived and disarmed Lancelot with his magic, after which Gwen threw herself between the two men to stop their fighting. She and Lancelot were then arrested and taken to the dungeons, where they were placed in separate cells.

Later that night, Agravaine snuck into the dungeons and gave Lancelot a letter from Morgana ordering him to commit suicide. His body was discovered by the guards the next day and Arthur, concluding that he must have killed himself out of guilt, ordered that he receive a proper burial.

Merlin took Lancelot's body to the Lake of Avalon, where he placed him in a boat and incanted a spell to free his soul from Morgana's control. The spell also brought Lancelot to life long enough for him to thank Merlin, after which the warlock pushed the boat out onto the lake and ignited it with his magic (Lancelot du Lac).

Abilities[]

The Shade version of Lancelot appeared to possess the same abilities as the original Lancelot. He was a finalist in the jousting tournament and likely would have won had he not chosen to forfeit. Later, when he and Arthur dueled, he proved skilled in fighting with both a sword and hand-to-hand until he was disarmed by Merlin.

The Shade Lancelot also appeared to be resistant to magical attacks, as he easily withstood Merlin's stunning spell (Lancelot du Lac).
