As you can see the Wiki is celebrating halloween... or more Merlin-contextually relevant, Samhain, as seen in The Darkest Hour.
Samhain (Wikipedia article) is also known as the Witch's New Year. You should at least have an idea from watching Merlin, I'd hope!
"Samhain is a night when the veil between our world and the spirit world becomes very thin, and it's a good time to do some divination! Samhain falls on October 31 every year in the Northern Hemisphere, so the date for Samhain 2011 is October 31, although in some traditions it may be celebrated on November 1. In the Southern Hemisphere, it is on May 1. So as you can see we've got into the spirit of the Wiki. Our ghoulish friends have come from the dead to join us and help us celebrate! But even more importantly, help us compete for something which could be extraordinarily beneficial to the Wiki...
Winning Wikia's halloween costume competition !
Check out the link and you'll see the other entries. I think we have a very strong chance. I have to thank (sorry I can't remember all names so I won't name) the Merlinians I was talking to about ideas for the wallpaper in chat some time ago (you'll know who you are). Merlin does indeed have a lot of scary characters and creatures, and it was hard to choose, but I hope I made a good decision! Uther makes a good ringleader...
Anyway, getting to a high place in the competition would alone be beneficial, but winning would be awesome! The winner Wiki gets (and competition closes October 31.. halloween/Samhain):
- Cover story promotion (revolving marquee at the top of the page) on the Entertainment, Video Games, and Lifestyle hubs.
- One months worth of promotion in the Wikia spotlight.
This is indeed something to yearn for!
